Contest Rules
The StoryMakers Writing Contest (the “Contest”) is sponsored by ASSET-Eight, AZ PBS with major funding provided by the Qwest Foundation. All entries must be received by February 23, 2011.
1. How to Enter
Each entry must complete and submit the official Arizona StoryMakers Writing Contest online entry formand print a copy of it to include with their hardcopy submission (limit one entry per participant). The entry form must have the required signature of a parent/guardian (and, if appropriate, the optional signature of the sponsoring teacher), confirming that the story and art are original, and granting certain rights to the entry materials. ALL entries must have the signature of a parent/legal guardian. The entry form and story must be mailed to the address listed on the entry form .. In the event of multiple entries, the first entry will be entered in the contest and all other entries will be ignored. All entries must be submitted in hardcopy. Email submissions will be disqualified.
Each participant must submit an original, single authored story with a minimum of 500 words and a maximum of 1000 words for fiction and non-fiction stories. Text must be typed in 12 point Times New Roman and double spaced. Any failure to adhere to these contest rules will result in disqualification.
2. Eligibility
The contest is open to 6, 7, and 8th grade students only.
The contest is open to Arizona residents only. Entry materials become the property of Eight-AZ PBS. Eight-AZ PBS is not responsible for lost, late, damaged, misdirected or illegal entry forms or unsuccessful attempts to notify prize recipients. All materials submitted as part of the entry form must be the participant’s own original work. The entry form must not contain any unauthorized use of names, likenesses or biographical information of any third parties.
3. Judging
Entries will be judged on originality, creative expression and storytelling. The fiction and non-fiction selections will be judged according to the 6+1 Trait® Scoring Guide.
4. Prizes
Prizes (to be determined) will be awarded to first, second and third place winners in each of the two categories: fiction and non-fiction for each grade level. Sponsors reserve the right to verify that each prize recipient is qualified and entitled to receive his or her prize.
Prizes will be awarded at an awards assembly and author lecture to be held on March 27, 2011 in Phoenix, AZ.
5. Conditions
All Federal, state and local laws and regulations apply. Sponsors are not responsible for any expenses incurred in connection with participation in the Contest. By submitting an entry form , each participant (and his or her parent or guardian) agree to be bound by these Contest rules, and the decisions of Sponsors are final. Each participant (and his or her parent or guardian) agrees to release and hold Sponsors their employees, officers, directors, shareholders, agents, representatives and its subsidiaries, parent companies or other affiliated companies harmless from any and all damages, losses, claims and/or liabilities arising out of his or her participation in the Contest or resulting from acceptance or claiming of any prize hereunder. Sponsors reserve the right, in their sole discretion, to terminate, suspend or otherwise cancel the Contest at any time. Income and other taxes are the responsibility of the prize recipient.
6. Use of Information
Upon submission, each entry and the entry form become the sole property of the Sponsors. By submitting an entry and entry form , each participant (and his or her parent or guardian) assigns all right, title, and interest in and to the entry and entry form to the Sponsors and warrants that he or she (and his or her parent or guardian) have the authority to assign such right, title, and interest. In the event that any applicable law requires certain formalities to be fulfilled to effectuate such grant of rights, each participant (and his or her parent or guardian) agrees to cooperate with the Sponsors to achieve fulfillment of such formalities at Sponsors' request. Submission of an entry form constitutes permission (except where prohibited by law) for Sponsors to use the participants’ name, likeness, biographical information, information and materials contained in the entry form , photographs and any statements or remarks made about the Contest for advertising and promotional purposes without additional compensation.
7. Winners
Winners will be contacted by March 27, 2011 and will also be announced online via www.azpbs.org/asset.
