Community Education, Outreach and Prevention
The mission of Barrow's Community Education, Outreach, and Prevention Department is to provide a full continuum of programs to educate individuals of all ages, community leaders, and public policy makers on how to prevent brain, spinal cord, and other traumatic injuries.

Adaptive Curriculum
Adaptive Curriculum is an award winning, standards and research based, online collection of Activity Objects in middle and high school math and science. Adaptive Curriculum will provide a one year teacher subscription to ASSET Educator Members that are Middle or High School Math and/or Science teachers. ASSET provides professional development services (e.g., instructional training design, face to face workshops, and webinars) in collaboration with ASU faculty working for Sebit, Inc to support the integration of Adaptive Curriculum in middle and high school classrooms across the United States and its territories. Sebit, Inc. is based at the ASU Skysong Campus in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Annenberg Media - Learner.org
ASSET and Eight/KAET are a mirror site for Annenberg Media video services. Annenberg Media at Learner.org offers workshops, courses and almost 1,000 videos designed for educator professional development. If is free to create an account.

Annenberg Media uses media and telecommunications to advance excellent teaching in American schools. This mandate is carried out chiefly by the funding and broad distribution of educational video programs with coordinated Web and print materials for the professional development of K-12 teachers. It is part of The Annenberg Foundation and advances the Foundation's goal of encouraging the development of more effective ways to share ideas and knowledge.


Arizona Science Center
The mission of Arizona Science Center is to inspire, educate and entertain people of all ages about science. The Center, located at 600 E. Washington St. in Copper Square in downtown Phoenix, features more than 300 hands-on exhibits, daily live demonstrations, a multi-media Dorrance Planetarium and an IMAX® Theater. AzTEA - Arizona Technology in Education Alliance
Eight Educational Outreach: ASSET supports AzTEA at the top level of non-profit sponsors with in-kind services. ASSET is pleased to promote AzTEA events, offer studio space for special events, and participate as a presenter at local chapter workshops. ASSET also promotes AzTEA membership and local involvement with ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education) initiatives. AzTEA will support Eight Educational Outreach through its contributions to special innovative technology projects such as the work with FRONTLINE: Digital Nation.

ASSET-Eight is proud to have been awarded a Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust grant in support of the Ready To Learn program. This grant helps fund Ready To Learn workshops for parents and other educators of children birth to five in Maricopa County. Ready To Learn is public broadcastingÍs ongoing contribution to our nationÍs most important educational goal Æ that all children begin school ready to learn.

ñThe Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust seeks to help people in need, especially women, children and families; to protect animals and nature; and to enrich community life in the metropolitan areas of Indianapolis and Phoenix.


ASSET has partnered with the Qwest Foundation for several years to build a strong portfolio of early childhood educator services for Arizona educators. These services include face to face and online workshops for educators and in-home childcare providers with KCETÍs A Place of Our Own/ Los Niños en Su Casa, as well as reduced registration costs for PBS TeacherLine online courses such as ñRaising Readers: Preparing Preschoolers for Success.î

Qwest Foundation funds have also supported stipend costs for Early Childhood Classroom Innovators. These classroom and agency leaders will support their colleagues in participating in the professional development offered by ASSET-Eight as well as integrate PBS on-air and online standards-based resources for teachers, parents, and children into their daily classroom activities.

Science Matters
Science Matters is a major public awareness and engagement campaign by the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) designed to rekindle a national sense of urgency and action among schools and families about the importance of science education and science literacy. Science Matters brings content, news and information that supports quality science education to parents and teachers nationwide-information that focuses on quality learning experiences in the sciences for students starting at an early age, and why science education is critical to science literacy and our future workforce. Science Matters builds on the success of the Building a Presence for Science program, first launched in 1997 as an e-networking initiative to assist teachers of science with professional development opportunities. Shape Up Us
Shape Up US has joined the national effort to stem the tide of heart disease by developing a unique and exciting program called "Hip Hop Healthy Heart Program."

This K-6th grade cardiovascular disease prevention program is totally interactive and the program emphasizes healthy diet, consistent exercise and positive thinking in six lesson plans that include 29 lessons.

Teachers' Domain
Teachers' Domain is an online library of more than 2,800 free media resources from the best in public television. These classroom resources, featuring media from NOVA, Frontline, Design Squad, American Experience, and other public broadcasting and content partners are easy to use and correlate to state and national standards.

Teachers' Domain resources include video and audio segments, Flash interactives, images, documents, lesson plans for teachers, and student-oriented activities. Once you register, you can personalize the site using "My Folders" and "My Groups" to save your favorite resources into a folder and share them with your colleagues or students. Teachers' Domain strives to strengthen teacher knowledge by providing innovative teaching methods that incorporate technology in the classroom and inspire students to learn.
